We take a closer look at one of the trendmakers of the 80's

Special Guest tonight: Frits van Swoll, founder of the famous High Fashion Label. Frits was probably the first man in Holland to bring Italo to a wider audience. His fearless releases and approach led to many remixes, many of which done by Ben Liebrand, that made it straight into the charts. The Netherlands where and still are the ultimate"testcase" for a release in Europe and Frits' releases on the High Fashion label created many Hits in Holland, and by doing so, opening the doors to the rest of Europe.

Do not miss thsi show if you like Italo and lived on the dancefloor in the early 80's. And also check out the backstage interview.

Frits is also looking for new talent. He has proven to have a fine sense of what can be succesfull and has closely worked with artist like Fun Fun, but also Anouk, Holland's top female rocksinger.
So if you feel you would like to start a female band, act or group, send me a mail and I'll forward the message

Tracks featured in this special:

Fun Fun - Happy Station (Ben Liebrand scratch mix)
Frits licensed this track in Italy, and felt it needed something extra. Frits suggested some scratch noises and I went to work. Not with turntables but with a Korg MS10 synthesizer. Subsequently, all sratch sounds you here in this mix are from the Korg MS10

Korg MS10, used to make all scratch sounds in Happy Station

Chemise - She can't love you
The first release on High Fashion and a big hit.

Moses - We Just
Again Frits found a track where few people where looking. He got the a-side, but found the hit on the B-side in the form of a sample based almost instrumental version ommitting all other vocals except the two words "We Just". Again it was Frits' "go for it" attitude that made him decided to exchange a and b-sides, and again a hit was born.

Jovannotti - Libera l'anima
Presented to Frits by Jovanotti himself here pictured on the roof of radioDJ in Italy:

Alisha - Babytalk
Also one of Frits' favorites from the High Fashion Era

Frits was also the guy who introduced Salt'N'Pepa to Europe, as he licensed their album in a time when no-one else believed in the girl rap act. "Push it" was a slowburner, taking many weeks to reach all the dancefloors in Europe and again a true dance classic discovered by Frits van Swoll:

Other tracks played during the interviews:
Valerie Dore - The Night (instrumental)
My Mine - Hypnotic Tango (instrumental)
Doctor's Cat - Feel the Drive (instrumental)
Tulio de Piscope - Bajon - (instrumental)
